Laravel + Vue.js + Docker: The Stack Behind Fast, Maintainable Web Apps

Out of all the stack combinations I've worked with, Laravel + Vue.js + Docker is the one I keep coming back to for client projects. It's not the trendiest combination, but it's one of the most productive — and productivity is what actually matters when you're shipping real products on real deadlines.
Laravel handles the hard backend problems for you
Authentication, authorization, queues, job scheduling, database migrations, caching — Laravel gives you all of this with sane defaults, so you spend your time on business logic instead of plumbing. Eloquent, Laravel's ORM, makes working with relational data genuinely pleasant.
Vue.js keeps the frontend approachable
Vue strikes a balance that I find hard to beat: it's approachable enough that a new developer can be productive within days, but powerful enough (with the Composition API, Pinia for state management, and a strong component ecosystem) to handle genuinely complex interfaces. It also integrates cleanly with Laravel via Inertia.js if you want a single-page-app feel without building a separate API-only backend.
Docker ties it all together
With docker-compose, a new developer can clone the repository and have the full stack — PHP, the Vue dev server, MySQL, Redis — running locally with one command. No more multi-page onboarding docs, no more version mismatches between machines. The same container setup, with minor adjustments, carries through to staging and production.
Why this combination specifically
- Fast to build in — most CRUD-heavy features ship in a fraction of the time compared to assembling a stack from scratch
- Easy to maintain — Laravel's conventions mean any competent developer can pick up the codebase later
- Scales well — from a small business site to a multi-tenant SaaS product, without a rewrite

No stack is the right answer for every project, but for business websites, internal tools, and SaaS products with real data models behind them, Laravel + Vue.js + Docker consistently gives clients a fast, maintainable result without over-engineering.
What this looks like in a real project
A typical setup: Laravel exposes a clean API and handles auth, validation, and background jobs (sending emails, generating reports, syncing with third-party services). Vue consumes that API and renders a fast, reactive interface, either as a fully separate SPA or via Inertia.js for a more traditional server-driven routing feel. Everything runs in Docker containers defined by a single docker-compose.yml, so the exact same setup runs in development, staging, and production.
When I'd reach for something else
This stack isn't automatically right for every project. A marketing site with no backend logic doesn't need Laravel at all — a static site generator is faster to build and cheaper to host. A product with heavy real-time requirements (live collaborative editing, high-frequency data streams) might be better served by a Node.js backend. The point isn't that this stack is universally best — it's that for the category of project it fits, the productivity gain is real and repeatable.
